What should the next system look like — and how can we get there?

Full details at http://nyc.thenextsystem.org/

Growing inequality, climate disruption, mass incarceration, perpetual warfare and too many other crises to name have woken us up: the current system doesn’t work for the vast majority of us, and we need to work toward something else.

In order to build a world that prioritizes people, communities and the planet, we need space to reimagine what’s possible, uplift projects that move us closer to our vision(s), and build connections among the people already doing the hard work to bring us into another paradigm.

This March, join hundreds of fellow New Yorkers as we vision together, share work & ideas, and build connections that serve us as we work towards a “Next System.”

596 Acres is proud to be a local sponsor for this project of the Democracy Collaborative.

On Friday, March 11 at 1pm, join Paula Z. Segal for a workshop brought to the Next System by 596 Acres:

From Open Data to Collective Action: Living Lots!
http://nyc.thenextsystem.org/from-open-data-to-collective-action-living-lots/
Want X-ray vision that lets you see through the vacant lots and abandoned houses in your city? We will look at how the combination of data, mapping and social networking has been used to build power and reclaim the commons in New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Los Angeles. Design your dream X-ray specs for viewing property in your city. Leave with concrete steps to start turning data into community power.
